In the framework of a press conference in the FELIX Kitchen & Bar this Wednesday, Tamás Günzer from the Villány wine region was announced as the winner of the ‘Winemaker of the Year in Hungary 2023" award.
The title, administered by the Hungarian Wine Academy, is the most prestigious Hungarian recognition for Hungarian winemakers.
The award is not a recognition of the outstanding quality of a wine, but is given for the outstanding performance of the winning wine producer over several years, for the consistent high quality of his wines, for his successes at home and abroad, and for his efforts for the wine industry.
This year, Tamás Günzer was nominated for the third time, and after 24 years, it is a winemaker from Villány again who has won the award. The winegrowing family cultivates 75 hectares of vineyards, from which they produce 5,000 hectoliters of wine a year. It's a real family business, where everyone has found their ideal job: of the children, Gina is in charge of marketing, Roland is the head winemaker and mother Mariann supervises accounting in addition to heading the catering business.
Tamás Günzer's winery exports to many countries, including Poland, Ireland, Switzerland and China, but their range of products can also be found on the shelves of local shops. Among their most outstanding wines are Bocor Grandior Merlot, Mátyás Cuvée, Devils Merlot, Bocor Chardonnay and Bocor Cuvée. The winery has participated in several wine competitions with great results.
