The Minaret of Eger, the famous 400-year-old prayer tower is up for rent and the asset management Hungarian State Holding Company hopes for at least HUF one million a year in rental charges.
A single round tender is announced and as the local portal Egerszin.hu writes, those interested can only apply for renting the facility, it is not for sale. Applications may be submitted until May 11 and the results will be announced on May 26.
The building, located at the intersection of four streets, was constructed of sandstone between 1596 and 1664. From the tower, which is surrounded by a wrought-iron fence, there is an excellent view of the whole city and its surroundings.
Resting on a base of 14 angles, the building is 40 meters high, enclosing a spiral staircase of 97 narrow, high rungs. It has no suitable facilities and utilities for catering and can now only be utilized for tourism display as a protected monument.
