Pandemic: Low Infection Rate Measured in Hungary

Partial results of a nationally representative coronavirus screening test show that there are 2.4 infected people per ten thousand people, which means a maximum of 7,230 people infected if the results are projected to the total population.

So far, 46.5% of the nearly 18,000 people to be tested in the study have been screened by PCR tests, conducted by four medical universities throughout the country, with the rest being asked to take the test.

Of the 8,276 PCR tests performed to date, two positives were found in the H-UNCOVER study, and nine people (0.6%) in the first 1,524 blood samples were shown to have been infected with a coronavirus before. Based on these values, the average rate of infection in the Hungarian population is estimated with 95% certainty) between 0.11 and 0.27%. That was announced by Béla Merkely, Rector of Semmelweis University that heads the nationally representative coronavirus screening, at the Semmelweis University online conference on Tuesday.

He stated that the nationwide testing, conducted with the help of a total of 1,500 doctors, nurses, medics, PhD students and medical students, is still ongoing, the results are only partial and only include those living in private households over the age of 14, so, among them, there are no residents of nursing homes, for example.
