The Hungarian production 'Mindenki' (literal translation: 'Everyone') has won the Academy Award in the Best Short Film Live Action category. The recognition comes after last year's success of the 'Son of Saul' in the Best Foreign Language Film category.
Directed by Kristóf Deák, the film (English title: 'Sing') is about a young girl, Zsófi who is having a hard time fitting in at her new school, and her distress grows when the choir director treats her cruelly despite her love of singing. Along with her friend Liza, Zsófi investigates the revered teacher in an attempt to reveal her true nature.
The last time a Hungarian film was nominated in Best Short Film Live Action category was over half a century ago.
