Kenyan and Hungarian wins at Budapest Marathon

A record number of participants took part this year in the annual Budapest Marathon Run in the Hungarian capital this Sunday. Organized by the Budapest Sports Bureau, the annual run took place for the 26th time.

Kenyan runner Sawe Elisha Kiprotich clocked 2 hours 25 minutes and 58 seconds to win the men’s race at the 26th Budapest International Marathon on Sunday. The winner of the women’s competition was Hungary’s Judit Nagy Földing for whom it took 2 hours, 54 minutes and 47 seconds to complete the distance.

They were just two of the record number of 16.350 entrants from 53 countries, including approximately 2,000 foreign participants who took part in Hungary’s largest leisure sports event at different distances (3.5, 7, 30 and the classic 42.195 kilometers).

Marathon runners started in the City Park, ran along streets in downtown Budapest, including crossing the Danube, before returning to the City Park.
