Hungary wins gold at European Judo Championship

Hungary’s Olympic bronze medalist Éva Csernoviczki won the first gold medal at the European Judo Championship that takes place in Budapest this week. In the final, she defeated Charline van Snick of Belgium, the top ranked European judoka in the women’s U48-kg category.

Before the contest, observers expected two Belgians, Charline van Snick and Amelie Rosseneu to fight for the gold medal. Howeber, Csernoviczki, who finished third at the Summer Olympic Games in London last year, fought her way to the final and eventually defeated van Snick by a waza-ari to win the 16th title for Hungary in European judo history.

"I am glad glad that finally, I managed to win a European title after losing three finals in the past. the home crowd helped me a lot," Csernoviczki said.
