More than ten thousand people arrived in Hungary from Ukraine on Monday, the National Police Headquarters (ORFK) told the state news agency MTI on Tuesday morning. 4,664 people entered Hungary on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border, while 5,510 of those entering through the Romanian-Hungarian border said they had arrived from Ukraine.
Of those who entered, police issued to 504 people temporary residence permits valid for 30 days. They will have to go to the office of the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing of their place of residence to obtain the permanent documents, the police said.
On Monday, 466 people, including 232 children, arrived in Budapest by train to escape the war in Ukraine, they added.
The Budapest Police Headquarters (BRFK) said on Tuesday on police.hu that it was assisting refugees arriving by train from Ukraine with the Standby Police and police patrol training participants. The Budapest Civil Guard Association is also providing support in the tasks, they added.
The police officers are in constant contact with the National Directorate General for Disaster Management, the National Directorate General for Aliens, the Hungarian State Railways, the Budapest Transport Centre, the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing, the Budapest City Government Office and the staff of aid organizations, the BRFK said in a statement.
