Used Passenger Car Registrations Up by Some 10%

In the first half of this year, 68,965 imported used cars were registered in Hungary, which is an increase of 9.8% compared to the 62,836 registered in the same period last year, JóAutók.hu [‘Good cars’] reported.

In a statement to the state news agency MTI, Bertalan Halász, CEO of JóAutók.hu, pointed out that used car imports are still kept relatively high by the scarce supply of new cars, with only 57,000 new cars registered in the first half of the year, 11% less than in the same period last year.

The CEO stressed that used car imports are also facing increasing constraints, with fewer quality used cars available in purchasing countries, as supply problems are also generating higher demand than ever before from buyers in those countries. “In addition, the situation of Hungarian importers is further worsened by the euro exchange rate stuck at around HUF 400," he added.

According to the statement, the changing trend is indicated by the fact that in the second quarter nearly 5% fewer used cars were imported into the country than in the first quarter. June was the first month this year when the volume of imported cars did not reach the level of a year earlier. Last month, 10,712 used cars received Hungarian registration plates, compared to 11,851 in June last year.
