From Monday August 1, Shell will "temporarily suspend" the operation of five of its petrol stations in Hungary, including two in Budapest. According to a statement issued by the company on Thursday, the decision was taken "in response to the challenges of the tight supply of raw materials in the fuel market at a regional level and the high sales volumes."
According to Shell, the closure of the stations was also motivated by the need to 'optimise network operations and manage labour more efficiently'. The latter means that the workers at the closed stations will not be laid off by the already labour-scarce company, but will "continue to work at other stations that remain open until the planned reopening."
Shell Hungary Plc.'s primary goal is to provide a safe fuel supply to its customers, serving residential customers and corporate partners that keep the country and economy running.
Shell Hungary Plc. believes that the above measures will help maintain security of supply in the current market conditions. "In addition to this, it is of paramount importance that the company protects the jobs of its employees as well as those of its station workers," the statement said.
