The Embassy of India in Budapest has organized a ceremony to celebrate the country’s Independence Day that marks the end of British rule and the establishment of a free and independent Indian nation.

As the Embassy statement says, “on August 14, 1947 Indian people freed themselves from the shackles of colonial rulers and decided to reshape their destiny.”

At the celebration featuring colorful national performances, the Ambassador of India, Partha Satpathy began his speech by quoting the thoughts of Droupadi Murmu, President of India. who emphasized that by the year 2047, the Indian people will have fully realized the dreams of their freedom fighters and they are already on course to build an India that realizes its true potential. The president also highlighted that the world has seen a new India rising in recent years, more so after the outbreak of Covid-19. The country launched the biggest vaccination drive in human history.

However, the Ambassador added, in the last few years, India has seen massive progress in the development of physical and digital infrastructure as well. The national master plan for multi-modal connectivity, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana is to provide integrated and seamless connectivity for the movement of people, services and goods. Also, a series of economic reforms and policy initiatives have been preparing the ground for long-term further digital evolution. Digital India for example is creating the bedrock of a knowledge economy and the ‘National Education Policy’ is aimed at preparing the future generation for the next stage of the industrial revolution.

In his speech at the ceremony, the Ambassador of India also stressed how important the value of democracy is. As he said, “we often forgot to evaluate something that we take for granted.”
