The newest section of the bicycle path connecting the capital with Lake Balaton between Székesfehérvár and Balatonakarattya has been opened. Thus, cyclists can reach the shores of Lake Balaton from Budapest by bicycle on the more than 100-kilometer-long road section.
The new 27.4-kilometer-long section is reported to make it easier for people living in the area to reach their destinations and provide safer and more comfortable access to Lake Balaton.
Of the entire 108-kilometer section of the route, which forms part of the EuroVelo 14 network of European cycle paths, the section from Budapest to Etyek was opened in June, and since July it has been possible to cycle from Etyek to Lake Velence and now to Balatonakarattya from the capital.
On the Budapest-Balaton cycle route, which cost more than HUF five 5 billion, bikers may comfortably reach the ‘Hungarian sea’ within 2-3 days.
