Data recorded in the first quarter of this year shows that 10.2% less motor gasoline and 22.4% less diesel were consumed in Hungary than in the same period last year, with fuel consumption falling by an average of 18.2% compared to the first quarter of last year, the Hungarian Petroleum Association (MÁSZ) said on its website on Thursday.
Total consumption in the first three months was 896.2 million liters, with 343.5 million liters of petrol and 552.6 million liters of diesel being filled into vehicles, according to aggregate sales data from MÁSZ member companies.
Within fuels, 47.8 million liters of premium-grade petrol were sold, 18.5% less than a year earlier. Motorists filled up with 295.7 million liters of 95 petrol, 8.7% less than in the same period last year.
Consumption of premium diesel was 37 million liters in the first quarter, down 49.1% on a year earlier. Sales of non-premium diesel were 515.6 million liters, down 19.4% year-on-year.
According to the Petroleum Association, on average, around 75% of total domestic petrol sales are made by MÁSZ member companies; last year, this figure was over 80%. For diesel, retail sales by MÁSZ member companies account for around 60% of total domestic sales, up from almost 64% last year.
