The Hungarian air navigation service provider, HungaroControl Plc., reported on Thursday that traffic in Hungary's airspace increased significantly over the Easter period compared to the same period last year, the service provider told MTI.
The Easter long weekend is a special period in air traffic, when the traffic in Hungarian airspace usually exceeds the average number of aircraft movements on normal days of the year, the statement said.
This year, during the Easter long weekend, HungaroControl experts assisted in the safe movement of 12,534 aircraft. This is an increase of 17.3% compared to last year's holiday period, when 10,688 aircraft passed over Hungary.
This year's traffic is more than 37% higher than the 2019 Easter statistics before the new coronavirus pandemic.
They added that the outstanding growth trend in overflight traffic in recent years has continued, with traffic data showing that 88% of aircraft transiting Hungarian airspace over the festive period were flights.
The statement quoted Ferenc Turi, CEO of HungaroControl Plc., as saying that more than 3,000 flights per day were handled during the festive period, and all this was achieved without any major delays.
