Both runways at Ferenc Liszt International Airport are operational again, and air traffic is gradually returning to normal, Budapest Airport announced on its website on Monday evening.

Earlier on Monday, a severe thunderstorm disrupted traffic at the airport. Due to debris carried by the stormy winds, the runways were temporarily closed at 2:20 p.m. for safety reasons. After cleaning, runway 1 was reopened in an hour and a half, and runway 2 was reopened at 5:23 p.m.

According to the announcement, traffic is gradually returning to normal, and the airport is once again operating with two runways, but because several arriving flights landed at other airports due to the storm, some flights departing from Budapest have been canceled.

The departure hall of Terminal 2A was partially flooded, so all passenger check-in is taking place at Terminal 2B.

No one was injured, and damage assessment is currently underway. terminal information staff by the airport operator Budapest Airport and the Airport Police Directorate are present at the scene in increased numbers.
