Vajda-Papír Acquires Household Paper Business

Vajda-Papír Group, Hungary's leading manufacturer of hygiene paper, is acquiring Sofidel Hungary's household paper business, the group announced on the Budapest Stock Exchange (BSE) website on Monday.

Vajda-Papír announced that on November 7, 2025, it signed a purchase agreement with Sofidel Hungary Ltd. to acquire Sofidel's Hungarian household paper processing business, subject to certain conditions (including approval by the Hungarian Competition Authority). The financial closing of the transaction is expected in the second quarter of 2026, following the acquisition of the necessary regulatory approvals. With the planned acquisition, Vajda-Papír will further strengthen its presence in the regional household paper market and expand its production capacity and product portfolio.

According to Vajda-Papír's previous announcement, the group's net sales in the first half of 2025 increased by 11.8% and its pre-tax profit by 17% compared to the same period last year. In the first six months of the year, consolidated sales revenue was HUF 38 billion, compared to HUF 34 billion a year earlier, and EBITDA was around HUF 4.1 billion, close to last year's half-year figure. Consolidated pre-tax profit rose from HUF 3.2 billion in the first half of 2024 to HUF 3.7 billion. In the first half of 2025, the company sold 27,519 tons of finished goods, 16% more than a year earlier. While the domestic consumer market declined slightly by 1% , export volume increased by 34% and public sector sales by 13%.

The Vajda-Papír Group is present in Central and Eastern Europe, the Baltic States, and Scandinavia, exports its products to more than 30 countries, employs more than 700 people at group level, and has three sites in Hungary and one in Norway. With an annual production capacity of 140,000 tons, Vajda-Papír, which is 100 percent Hungarian family-owned, produces 55-60% of domestic demand and exports 60% of its production abroad. In addition to European countries, it also exports to Asia and the Caribbean.

According to publicly available company data, Sofidel Hungary, which has a plant in Lábatlan, west of Budapest, employs 177 people, and its net sales at the end of last year exceeded HUF 11.86 billion, following HUF 12.6 billion in the previous year. The Sofidel Group is headquartered in Porcari, Italy (in the province of Lucca) and is one of the world's leading manufacturers of hygiene and household paper products.
