"According to plans, both runways at the airport will reopen at 1 p.m., so practically at any moment. We have cleared and de-iced the runways, but the highest, level three snow alert remains in effect at the airport," Katalin Valentinyi, Chief Corporate Communications and Government Relations Officer at the operator company Budapest Airport on Tuesday afternoon.
"Snow and black ice was detected at Ferenc Liszt International Airport and its surroundings from early Tuesday morning until the early afternoon, 13 January. The airport is currently on the highest level of preparedness for snow. Budapest Airport’s teams are working hard to continuously clear the runways, taxiways and aprons," the aiport operating company Budapest Airport says on one of its social media pages.
During the morning, eight flights had to land in other cities, typically Belgrade, Zagreb and Graz. Budapest Airport asks all passengers to follow the airport's website and social media pages, where they will be kept informed of the current situation.
