Surety stock of Garantiqa, a guarantor controlled by the Hungarian state, reached HUF 2,738 billion at the end of 2025, chairman-CEO István Attila Szabó is quoted by MTI as saying.
The guarantees were on HUF 3,531 billion of credit, the chairman-CEO stated.
Garantiqa has close to 72,000 contracts with more than 54,000 companies. The company already acts as guarantor for every second SME loan in Hungary. 64% of the guarantees helped micro-entrepreneurs, the segment that is most difficult for banks to lend to.
By acting as guarantor, the company enables numerous businesses to access loans that would otherwise be unable to obtain bank financing without institutional guarantees, or would only be able to do so under significantly less favorable conditions.
In the first two months of this year, the number of guarantee applications received by Garantiqa was 2.5 times higher than in the same period last year.
