The President of the League of Trade Unions (Democratic League of Independent Trade Unions), Dr. Melinda Mészáros sent a letter to Péter Magyar, the leader of the election-winning Tisza Party, stating that the leadership of the League is initiating cooperation with the new government, the union told MTI on Wednesday.

They justified the cooperation by citing the need to strengthen democratic institutions and, above all, social dialogue; to consolidate the system of checks and balances that forms the foundation of the rule of law; and to increase the competitiveness and productivity of the national economy. This is also the foundation for the development of the labor market and the rise in social welfare, they wrote.

According to the statement, the League of Trade Unions also formulated proposals to improve workers’ income, reform labor regulations, harmonize the regulatory framework for public service employees, develop institutions for interest reconciliation, facilitate the operation of trade unions, the removal of restrictions on the right to strike, and the establishment of an independent Ministry of Labor.

They added that they had also initiated negotiations with the future head of the new government regarding the proposals and a review of the framework for cooperation between the social partners.
