Hungary had a EUR 2.463 billion surplus in trade of services in the first quarter, according to data released by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) and reviewed by MTI.

Exports of services rose 4.5% year-on-year to EUR 8.753 billion. Imports of services climbed 4.8% to EUR 6.290 billion.

The tourism surplus reached EUR 659 million, the logistics surplus came to EUR 713 million and the surplus for business services stood at EUR 418 million. The surplus from contracted labour services reached EUR 581 million.

Hungary's surplus with the EU member states grew by EUR 31 million, primarily due to balance improvements with Austria and Denmark of EUR 85 million and 38 million, which were largely offset by EUR 63 million increase in the trade deficit with Ireland.

Trade with other European Union member states accounted for 63% of Hungary's service exports and 72% of its service imports.

Hungary's biggest partner in trade of services was Germany, accounting for 18% of turnover. The United States was runner-up, with an 8.7% share, followed by Austria with 6.8%.

In the 1st quarter of 2026, year-on-year, the value of service exports in EUR terms increased by 4.5% (decreasing by 0.9% in HUF terms), that of imports grew by 4.8% (decreasing by 0.6% in HUF terms). The surplus was EUR 94 million higher than in the same period of the previous year, but when converted to HUF, it was HUF 14 billion lower than that figure.
