Hungary's government wants to participate in the shared effort to build up Europe's high-speed rail network, Hungarian Transportation and Investment Minister Dávid Vitézy said ahead of a meeting of his European Union peers in Luxembourg on Monday.
In a social media post, quoted by MTI, the minister stated that Hungary also wanted to be a part of efforts to upgrade military mobility on Europe's rail network, while making domestic developments to benefit international haulers. He added that Hungary would table proposals on improving European and domestic rail networks.
At Monday’s Council meeting of European transport ministers in Luxembourg, participants also discussed issues related to air passenger rights, making compensation rules more transparent, the regulation of European rail tickets covering multiple countries and the challenges of the European vehicle fleet’s transition to electric power, the minister highlighted more items on the agenda of the meeting in a later post.
“Transport is an area where member states can achieve real progress not at each other’s expense, but by cooperating with one another,” Dávid Vitézy wrote.
