The Budapest Stock Exchange (BÉT) stock index, the BUX, fell amid declining trading volume during the short week; on Wednesday, the last trading day, the BUX closed at 148,659.81 points, down 1.26% or 1,892.89 points from the previous Friday.
Over the three trading days, weekly trading volume totaled HUF 58.98 billion, down from HUF 95.04 billion the previous week; leading stocks, with the exception of Mol, weakened.
On Monday, the BUX closed down 0.29% at 150,110.32 points, a performance that was in line with international markets. The 14.52% decline in 4iG’s share price contributed significantly to the BSE’s afternoon drop. This followed Prime Minister Péter Magyar’s announcement that the government would review all government-related contracts of the 4iG group. The stock closed at HUF 1,590 on Monday.
On Tuesday, European stock markets generally underperformed, with stock indices declining. The BSE was also affected by the unfavorable international sentiment, and the BUX closed at 148,696.72 points, down 0.94%.
On Wednesday, amid above-average trading volume of HUF 27.4 billion, the BUX weakened, closing down 0.02% at 148,659.81 points. Among the leading stocks, however, Mol rose 1.81% to close at a record high of HUF 5,015. Mol’s share price rose due to rising oil prices.
Among the leading stocks this week, only Mol’s share price rose, by 1.11%; on Wednesday, the stock closed at HUF 5,015, with weekly trading volume exceeding HUF 14.5 billion.
Richter’s price fell by 0.92% during the week; the stock closed at HUF 12,880 on Wednesday, with weekly trading volume totaling more than HUF 8.8 billion.
OTP’s share price weakened by 1.63% during the week; its closing price on Wednesday was HUF 45,300, with weekly trading volume of HUF 27.9 billion.
Magyar Telekom’s share price fell by 3.35% during the week; the stock closed at HUF 2,542 on Wednesday, with weekly trading volume of HUF 3.6 billion..
The BUMIX index, which tracks small- and mid-cap stocks, fell 0.17% or 16.12 points, closing the week at 9,666.15 points.
