Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc International Airport handled 2,137,301 passengers in August of this year, a 12.3% increase compared to the same period last year, Budapest Airport announced on Friday.

Total passenger traffic for the summer months was 6.2 million, exceeding all previous summer figures and representing a 13.7% increase over last year. In August, the most popular destinations from Budapest Airport were London, Tel Aviv, and Istanbul, the airport operating company Budapest Airport reported.

The volume of cargo transported by air, after a prolonged period of growth, declined slightly in July and August due to new European Union regulations on e-commerce goods. The August figure of 27,666 metric tons was 21% lower than in 2025, but Budapest Airport anticipates a rebound in demand by September. Despite the decline, the airport’s leading role in the region remains stable; the 290,000 metric tons of cargo handled from January through August represent the highest volume in the region, they added.

According to a previous announcement by Budapest Airport, passenger numbers at the airport first exceeded 2 million in July, and nearly 4,000 more passengers passed through the airport in August than in July. Passenger traffic for the first five months of this year exceeded 7.6 million.
