A billionaire's tax the government plans to introduce from 2027 enjoys broad support among households, while a little over half of companies expects the measure to have no impact on business, surveys by economic research institute GKI show.

The representative survey of 1,000 people conducted in September shows 85% of Hungarians back the rollout of the wealth tax: 59% "agree strongly" and 26% "agree" with the measure.

A survey of 650 companies conducted in October shows 51% expect the wealth tax to have no effect on business. It was 18% that said it would have an impact and 31% could not give an assessment.

Draft legislation would levy a 1% wealth tax on personal assets over HUF 1 billion and 1.5% on assets over HUF 100 billion.
