Hungarian oil and gas company MOL has set up an investigative committee to probe into the circumstances of an accident that occurred at the Olefin-1 petrochemical plant in Tiszaújváros, in north-east Hungary, the company told MTI on Saturday. One person was killed and nine injured in the Friday morning explosion in the plant.

The company continues to cooperate fully and continuously with all official authorities, the statement said. Work has begun on the safe drainage of the affected plant unit, and damage assessment work can begin once this is completed, it added.

The statement also said that MOL is in constant contact with nearby hospitals in Miskolc and Debrecen and is providing full support to the injured employees and their families.

Two of the company's employees have been discharged from the hospital in Miskolc, while seven employees require further hospital treatment, but their condition is stable and improving, it said.

Hungary's fuel supply is not affected by the industrial accident, and MOL Petrochemicals' other plants are operating as scheduled, the company said.
