This morning, many passers-by noticed that a figure with an umbrella is standing with playful ease on the facade of the Széll Kálmán tér building that houses the MNB's Supervisory Center and the Money Museum.
The special attraction created on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank is not a spontaneous action, but a joint project of Balance, i.e. photographer Péter Kálló and the mysterious Umbrella Man. Their collaboration combines art and extreme sports in a unique way, offering a new perspective to sightseeing. The Umbrella Man climbs to the most extreme and well-known places, among other things he has been seen on the top of the St. Gellért statue or the highest point of the Kelenföld Power Plant, and most recently he walked on the top of the Fire Tower in Sopron.
The former Postal Palace, now known as the MNB Supervisory Center and Financial Museum, is one of the city's iconic locations, built in an eclectic-secession style according to the plans of Gyula Sándy. Its tower became a defining symbol of one of the busiest spots in Buda, where today the unknown stuntman, holding an MNB100 umbrella, provided a special spectacle. The aim of the Umbrella Man is to draw the attention of the people of Budapest to the beauty of the urban environment and the special possibilities inherent in everyday places. The Magyar Nemzeti Bank, celebrating its centenary, was also happy to join this campaign.
