BMW's sales will be boosted next year by a new product portfolio, and the Hungarian importer expects the innovative Neue Klasse model, which will be launched in the second half of the year and will be produced at the German carmaker's new plant in Debrecen, to play a major role in this.
Zoltán Gombos, Managing Director of BMW Group Hungary, stressed this at a press conference in Budapest on Thursday by saying that "it remains a strategic goal for the BMW Group to remain at the forefront of electromobility, in which the next generation of efficient, pure electric drive concepts using state-of-the-art batteries will open up a new era."
At the same time, he added, BMW is not giving up on meeting the market demand for internal combustion vehicles, while it is already involved in the development of hydrogen-powered vehicles.
As Zoltán Gombos said, the BMW Group will have sold 6,274 vehicles in the Hungarian new car market in 2024, giving it a 5.2% share. Of the cars sold, 5,784 were BMW brand cars and 490 MINI models. BMW managed to maintain its leadership in the premium segment last year, with a share of 30.8%.
In Hungary, a total of 121,607 cars were sold in 2024, with 15.4% being premium vehicles.
The Managing Director pointed out that the BMW brand was able to grow by 10% last year in line with the market growth, explaining the record sales by the fact that the brand has more pulling models. More than half (52%) of sales were sports leisure models. He indicated that the vast majority of cars sold were requested by customers with all-wheel drive.
He pointed out that BMW was the 4th best-seller in the overall electric market in Hungary last year, with 674 vehicles sold. The brand can offer electric drive models in all segments, he noted.
Commenting on the performance of the MINI brand, brand director Balázs Németh said that the entire model range was renewed last year, with the transition explaining why sales fell by 28% to 490 units. The brand's electric sales, on the other hand, increased by 20%, with 126 units sold.
The BMW Group's engine segment recorded a 7% drop in sales last year after an outstanding year in 2023, with 743 vehicles sold. BMW's share of the Hungarian market for new engines is stable at over 20%.
