The Chinese car brand BYD's share of the Hungarian electric vehicle market is approaching 14% this year, BYD Hungary told MTI.

The brand, which launched in Hungary in 2023, sold 1,180 passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in the first eight months of this year.

The brand, which entered the Hungarian market in 2023, sold 1,180 passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in the Hungarian new car market in the first eight months of this year. With 141 cars sold in August, BYD was already the most popular brand among electric vehicles, and three BYD models were among the top ten best-selling models, they said, highlighting that the European range was expanded this week with a new model, the SEAL 6 DM-i, which uses the manufacturer's Super Hybrid powertrain.

The share of electric vehicles in the Hungarian new car market has already risen above 10% this year.

BYD will continue to expand intensively for the rest of the year, adding four new partners to its network by the end of the year, with dealerships available in eight Hungarian cities.

The Chinese brand entered 12 new markets in Europe in 2025, and the number of European dealerships is expected to exceed 1,000.

BYD Auto's goal is to manufacture where it sells, so they have confirmed that they will start production in Hungary at the end of 2025 at the Szeged plant, with the Dolphin model, as previously announced.

BYD Hungary also reported that in the first half of this year, the Chinese manufacturer achieved 23% growth compared to the same period last year, with sales reaching EUR 47 billion. The brand already has a 21% share of the global market for new energy vehicles, making it the market leader, as it is in the electric segment.
