New Car Registrations in Hungary Slip 4% in Jan-Feb

The number of new passenger car registrations in Hungary in January-February fell 3.5% from the same period a year earlier to 19,016, data compiled by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) show.

Hybrid electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles accounted for 61% of sales, cars with petrol engines made up 21% and vehicles with diesel engines 10%. Fully-electric vehicles accounted for over 9% of sales.

Sales of battery electric vehicles climbed 30.5% to 1,636 during the period and plug-in sales doubled to 1,395. Sales of petrol cars were down 18.1% at 3,926.

New car registrations in the EU fell by 1.2% to 1,664,680 in the first two months of this year compared to the same period last year. Over those two months, the share of hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) in the overall car market rose to 38.7% from 35.3% a year earlier. The market share of gasoline-powered cars shrank from 29% to 22.5%, while that of diesel-powered vehicles fell from 9.7% to 8.1%.

In the first two months of this year, registrations of gasoline-powered cars fell by 23.3% year-over-year, while those of diesel-powered cars dropped by 17.7%. In contrast, registrations of BEVs rose by 22.3%, and those of HEVs by 8.3%.
