The Toyota brand reported growth far exceeding market expansion year-over-year in the Hungarian new car market, where it continues to lead the brand rankings, Toyota Central Europe Ltd. (TCE) informed MTI.

Sales of the Japanese brand in Hungary rose by 16.2% in the first four months of this year compared to the same period last year, representing 6,603 passenger and light commercial vehicle sales. Meanwhile, the overall market showed a 7.8% increase, driven by 55,575 vehicle registrations, the company noted, citing data from Datahouse. The first quarter was particularly strong, with 5,190 vehicles put into service, representing a 23% increase and pushing the brand’s market share above 12%.

The passenger car segment alone brought Toyota nearly 20% growth in January-April compared to the same period in 2025, they noted, highlighting that despite this dynamic growth, the company managed to maintain a 40% share of private buyers, one of the highest in the market.

They noted that the light commercial vehicle segment saw an overall 7.5% decline in the first four months across the entire market, but Toyota was among the manufacturers that managed to increase its sales, albeit by a smaller margin (1.5%).

The importer attributes this strong growth not only to the optimistic market environment but also to Toyota’s unprecedented wave of new models, which will see eight new or updated SUVs enter the Hungarian market this year, expanding the lineup of electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid models, primarily in the extremely popular SUV segment. The new-generation RAV4, CH-R+, bz4x, Urban Cruiser, and Yaris Cross were cited as examples.
