The renovation of the iconic József Nádor Square in downtown Budapest has been completed and the square has been handed over to public use. The once disorderly public space now boasts a Zsolnay Fountain in the center and the statue of Joseph Anton Johann (1776-1847), Archduke of Austria and Palatine of Hungary who the square is named after. The statue is the work of German Classicist sculptor Johann Halbig.
A three-storey parking facility has been built under the square but the proportion of green areas is much lower than before the renovation process began in early 2016 when the square was dominated by 24 trees.
