A unit to assemble high-voltage batteries for the fully electric model generation NEUE KLASSE is added to BMW Group's plant in Debrecen of which construction was launched six months ago, the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency reports.

The total investment volume of the entire Debrecen project is thus set to exceed EUR 2 billion, and more than 500 additional new jobs will be created by the end of 2025.

The strategy of the BMW iFactory in Debrecen aims to minimize logistics distances, thus the company decided to build a high-voltage battery assembly plant on its 400-hectare site to serve the production needs of the fully electric model generation NEUE KLASSE. Thanks to the project, the batteries of every new BMW model to be built in Debrecen will be assembled on site. Accordingly, the volume of the company's investments will now exceed EUR 2 billion in total.

The battery assembly plant will be of 140,000 square meters, and it is expected to be up and running by the end of 2025. The next generation batteries can provide 30% longer driving range and 30% faster charging speed. BMW Group pays particular attention to reducing emissions and the amount of resources used during its production processes as much as possible. Thanks to the green commitment of the company, battery cell production-related emissions can also be cut by 60% compared to the existing fifth generation batteries.

BMW Group invests billions to produce battery modules in Bavaria, too, given that by 2030 every second new BMW worldwide will be electric.
