Just like last year, Budapest is ranked 17th in the world according to the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), which lists the number of international events complying with the organisation’s criteria. Hungary is 31st among the countries.
The Hungarian Tourism Agency says Budapest overtok major locations such as Stockholm (19th), Tokyo (22nd), Dublin (24th), Munich (26th), Zurich (33rd) and Warsaw (39th). ICCA’s world rankings show that Paris was the most popular location for conferences and conventions in 2014, followed by Vienna and Madrid.
According to the Agency, Hungary’s popularity as a location of conferences could improve further after the opening of the capital's new convention center, scheduled for 2018, which could result in Budapest becoming one of the world’s ten most popular locations for conferences within 2-3 years of the opening of the new center. The goal is for Budapest to become one of Europe’s most popular convention locations by 2020.
