István Gádor, the creator of modern Hungarian ceramics, will have his bequest auctioned at the BÁV Auction House and Pawnshop in Budapest within the framework of the 75th Art Auction.
In addition to István Gádor's most accomplished pieces, the collection to go under hammer includes outstanding paintings and sculptures created by some of his friends, István Dési Huber, János Kmetty or Hugo Scheiber. As BÁV’s artistic director, Péter Fertőszögi announced at the press briefing about the auction, visitors will be able to bid on pictures by such well-known Hungarian painters as Mihály Munkácsy, József Rippl-Rónai, Lajos Gulácsy or Géza Mészöly.
In addition to the exceptionally rich Zsolnay collection, the artifacts also include weapons, a Fabergé molding set as well as the hitherto most expensive piece of contemporary Hungarian jewelry featuring Kalocsa motives that starts at HUF 2.5 million.
