Flextronics International, the largest electronics manufacturing services provider in Hungary, has announced the layoff of 1,100 employees from its Zalaegerszeg plants. The staff cut starts on Monday and takes place in three stages.
The financial website portfolio.hu quotes the director of the labor center in Zala county, southwestern Hungary, who said that the Hungarian arm of the Singapore-based electronics company, one of the world’s largest contract manufacturers,had given the pink slip to some 500 workers in two rounds this year. The company has signaled only recently its intention to let go of another 1,100 employees.
The 950 blue-collar and 150 white-collar employees will be handed their layoff papers from Monday. The two units in Zalaegerszeg will cut staff by 800 in December 2012, by 150 in January and another 150 in February 2013.
