The number of new car registrations continued to rise in Hungary by 18% year on year in September, JATO Dynamics reported. The favorable picture is slightly overshadowed by the fact that the market remains driven by company purchases and re-export, whereas sales to private buyers still fail to improve meaningfully. It is not by chance in this environment that Ford turned out to be the most-popular brand in the country last month, as it was the favorite of businesses.
A total of 5,527 new passenger cars and 1,275 small utility vehicles (3.5 ton or less) were registered in Hungary in September 2014, which corresponds to an 18% year-on-year increase in the former and a 39% jump in the latter category. Ford was once again the top seller last month with 1,095 vehicles sold, 86% of which were bought by businesses, which ensured Ford a 15.9% market share in September, portfolio.hu reports,
In the market of passenger cars only, Ford finished first (again after August), with 797 new cars registered and 14.4% market share. Second place went to Opel, with 751 vehicles sold and Skoda came in third at 506. As regards the most popular models, Skoda stole the show, with 297 Skoda Octavias sold.
Growth continues to be ensured by the demand from businesses, which accounted for 77% of new car registrations last month. Taking at look at the most popular models we can still be sure that re-export continues to play a key role in how the statistics turn out.
Although, most new cars are registered in Hungary by businesses, some of the manufacturers keep faring well in terms of sales to private buyers, too. One of these is Dacia which had 46% of its newly sold cars bought by private buyers. As regards the biggest number of new registrations by private individuals, however, Opel was the winner in September, just like in August, thanks primarily to its Astra model.
