Following the largest order ever received by the Hungarian transport industry, a wide-ranging Hungarian-Egyptian railway vehicle manufacturing cooperation could be launched in the future, taking advantage of the market opportunities in Africa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade said in Budapest on Thursday.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Minister Péter Szijjártó said that one of the most important areas of bilateral economic cooperation is the transport industry, as the assembly plant in Dunakeszi, north of Budapest is heavily involved in the production of railway wagons for transport to the North African country.
The largest ever order for the domestic transport industry was originally a trilateral Russian-Hungarian-Egyptian project, but – as the ministry statement puts is – “due to major geopolitical changes” in the meantime, the Hungarian company Ganz-MÁVAG is now solely responsible for its implementation.
So far, 255 rail wagons have been delivered from Hungary and the production of the 314 additional wagons ordered is in progress. "The largest order ever placed by the Hungarian transport industry is being fulfilled and we believe that this could now open the door for a large-scale Egyptian-Hungarian rail vehicle manufacturing cooperation in the future, taking advantage of the opportunities in the African market," the minister concluded.
