Startup Campus Hungary has organized and executed a high-level startup tour in Athens for the first time, where representatives of the Hungarian and Greek ecosystems were able to establish new business relationships in the areas of smart city and sustainable energy management.
A delegation organized by Startup Campus Hungary, powered by HEPA (Hungarian Export Promotion Agency), participated in a business trip in Athens, focusing on smart city and sustainable energy. The Hungarian ecosystem was widely represented both at market and at state level: Startup Campus, HEPA, Hiventures, Tungsram, National Office for Research, Development and Innovation (NKFIH), EIT InnoEnergy and Széchenyi István University were all present; in addition, five startups, Platio, Rollet, SoleCall, Gapidea and Autoparadigm were also introduced to the landscape of Greek innovation. The primary objective of the tour was to establish direct connections between Hungarian and Greek technological and business ecosystems, as well as to exchange experiences between the two, according to a summary by Startup Campus Hungary.
Hiventures deputy director Álmos Mikesy stated that these two days in Greece “were immensely valuable to us as we were able to build important relationships that will benefit us in the future. I think the Greek market is still quite unfamiliar to the Hungarians, but at the same time, I think it is time to tap into it. For many of our portfolio companies, the Greek market can be an optimal target for growth.”
The delegation visited one of Athens’ top industry incubators, Industry Disruptors-Game Changers, where they were able to meet and learn about local innovative companies that play a key role in the development of smart cities in Greece. Hungarian Ambassador Erik Haupt participated at a press breakfast with the Hungarian delegation, followed by a professional conference co-organized with the Greek Found.Ation, where the delegation was able to introduce themselves to the local audience.
Director of Innovation at Tungsram, Ferenc Pongrácz said that sales opportunities were rather exciting for his company. “We were able to carry out discussions with quality partners from the Greek side, and I would like to emphasize that synergies and cooperation points were found in the Hungarian delegation, which covers several important players of the Hungarian innovation ecosystem. It was a very well organized and professional tour.”
