Chinese computer producer Lenovo has opened its first European manufacturing plant in Üllő, southwest of Budapest, where it will primarily produce server infrastructure, storage systems and high-end PC workstations for sale in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, the company told the Hungarian state news agency MTI on Tuesday.
The plant already employs more than 1,000 full-time staff in various engineering, management and operational roles, and the number will continue to grow as the facility moves towards full capacity.
According to the statement, Lenovo's strong infrastructure, skilled workforce and central location in Europe make Hungary the perfect location for Lenovo's first European manufacturing facility of its own, and part of the investment has been supported by local government incentives from the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA).
The new facility of almost 50,000 square meters is one of Lenovo's largest manufacturing plants. The production line has the capacity to manufacture more than 1,000 servers and 4,000 workstations per day, all tailored specifically to customer needs.
The new purpose-built building is equipped with solar panels of 0.5 megawatts capacity. The local production of the equipment significantly reduces the time and distance of product delivery, allowing for more efficient and sustainable delivery of goods. This, coupled with innovative manufacturing processes such as Lenovo's patented low-temperature soldering process, will help the company achieve its climate goals, they said.
