Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Ltd.'s 2024 revenue was EUR 4.171 billion, down by more than EUR 904 million from 2023, while the automotive company's profit after tax fell to EUR 57.596 million last year from EUR 95.661 million a year earlier, the company said on Thursday on the Budapest Stock Exchange (BSE) website.
According to a statement sent to MTI by Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft. on Thursday, the 2024 result was due to normalizing raw material prices and the positive effects of manufacturing cost efficiency.
The statement quoted Jens Bühler, Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Ltd, as saying that 2024 was another very busy year for the Kecskemét site, with the factory expansion progressing as planned, more than 146,000 vehicles rolling off the production lines and the celebration of the two millionth "Made in Kecskemét" Mercedes-Benz model, a pure electric EQB, in the autumn.
It was pointed out that the investment of more than EUR 1 billion, which is part of Mercedes-Benz's business plan, is a clear commitment to the Kecskemét site, strengthening its position in the group's global production network. The expansion will increase the factory's area to around 400 hectares.
Construction work continued apace in 2024 and progressed according to plan. As an example, the new battery assembly plant building for the final assembly of high-voltage batteries for pure electric models has been built and the installation of equipment has started.
It was stressed that the overall construction works are aimed at preparing the new production portfolio. Production of models based on the new MMA (Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture) platform is scheduled to start in early 2026. In the same year, the production of pure electric models based on the MB.EA platform (Mercedes-Benz Electric Architecture) will start. This will create around 3,000 new jobs in the medium term.
According to the announcement, the expansion of the Hungarian site, the restructuring of the plant's production portfolio and the flexibility of production will provide a solid basis for profitable growth in the coming years.
The Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét, which opened in 2012, employs around 4,500 people. The site covers the full range of modern drive technologies from classic combustion engines to plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles. The new compact electric vehicles are produced flexibly on the same production line as the conventionally powered models.
