Production at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét is halted due to a shortage of semiconductor circuit components, the state news agency MTI reports.
It is not only the German manufacturer's Kecskemét plant, but also the one in RastattGermany will shut down next week, and this week production has already been halted at the Bremen plant and at some parts of the Sindelfingen plant, both in Germany as well.
There was no answer from Daimler when asked how many employees would be affected by next week's shutdown, . The Bremen plant employs 12,000, the Rastatt plant 6,500, the Kecskemét plant 4,700 and the Sindelfingen plant 25,000.
These four sites have already experienced shutdowns in recent months due to a shortage of parts. The Kecskemét Mercedes plant had a shutdown in January and April, but the longest so far this year was in the summer: originally planned to last three weeks, the shutdown started at the end of July, but ended up lasting four weeks, the Hungarian business daily Világgazdaság reports.
