MOL open share sale to Croatian government

Hungarian oil and gas company MOL says that if the company decides to sell its shares in its Croatian subsidiaryINA , it will consult with the Croatian government as a potential buyer. The issue pf MOL's ownership of INA - and the possible sale of the shares - is raised as Croatia's chief prosecution office issued a European arrest warrant for MOL CEO Zsolt Hernádi in a bribery case.

Former Croatian prime minister Ivo Sanader is serving a 10-year prison sentence for accepting bribery money in the privatization of the Croatian oil company INA. Croat prosecutors claim the money came from the MOL CEO who is now wanted as he did not appear in Zagreb for questioning.

MOL is of the view that "due to the Croatian side's contract violations in the past, Croatia does not have a pre-emption right anymore, even though it was included in the 2009 contract". Despite this, MOL will definitely consult with the Croatian government, which has expressed its wish to acquire control on several occasions and is therefore "considered a potential buyer".
