Nestle Hungária has confirmed it will shut down production at its factory in the Diósgyőr area of the city of Miskolc (NE Hungary) by year-end because of a decline in demand for seasonal chocolate figurines.
Staff were informed of the decision early in July, Nestlé Hungária said. Talks on the sale of the factory and its future operation are "at an advanced stage", it added.
"The company's goal is to provide job opportunities for as many employees as possible, which is why it is transferring the plant to an investor who intends to continue confectionery production. Nestlé will provide information on the outcome of the advanced negotiations at a later date," they wrote.
They noted that Nestlé’s hollow chocolate figures will remain available to consumers, but in the future, they will be produced by a manufacturer independent of Nestlé, in accordance with the company’s strict quality standards.
Nestlé's factories in Szerencs (NE Hungary) and Bük (NW Hungary) will continue to undergo development.
