This year, the Hungarian firm Ganz Engineering and Energetics Machinery llc. (Ganz ЕЕМ), part of Russia’s Atomenergomash, will supply a batch of pumps for the third reactor – under construction – of nuclear power plant in Rostov, eastern Russia.
The nine huge pumps have been manufactured in the Ganz plant in Budapest and the two smallest were already delivered in June this year. The total weight of the seven giant ones is over a hundred tons and they have the combined capacity of transporting 17.5 cubic meters of water per second. The design and manufacturing of the pumps can exclusively be attributed to expertise by Hungarian engineers and other professionals.
Atomenergomash, one of the leading power machine-building companies in Russia, said the total cost of the contract exceeded USD 8 million (close to EUR 6.5 million). Some 60% of Ganz Engineering’s orders come from Russia, which is partially the result of the state-owned Russian firm Atomenergomash purchasing a 51% stake in Ganz in 2008. The supplying of nine pumps for the nuclear power plant in Rostov is part of these projects and has contributed to the Hungarian company experiencing a sevenfold increase in orders in the last six months, totaling about USD 50 million (just over EUR 40 million).
