PowerQuattro Plc. has developed a new railway safety device, which has received more than HUF 294 million in non-refundable EU funding for the project under the Széchenyi 2020 program, the company told MTI.
The research and development project, which was carried out over a period of two and a half years, involved the development of a self-operating electronic safety device for use on Hungarian railway lines. The elements of the system are located at the individual safety objects – station, level crossing, space – and communicate with each other via safety data transmission, the statement said.
They added that the development process has resulted in the completion of the LED light indicator, light control, and the electronic space safety equipment, which communicates via safety data transmission.
The state-of-the-art system, which meets the requirements of the twenty-first century, helps to detect possible faulty units, PowerQuattro Plc. It was recalled that MÁV Hungarian Railways has been installing self-operated field devices on its core network since the 1960s, and they are still in use today. These are of a signal-clamp design and are difficult to replace, so PowerQuattro Plc. believes that their system is an alternative to the refurbishment of this equipment on both MÁV and GYSEV lines.
Project manager Attila Szücs told MTI that the computer diagnostics developed for the operation of the equipment can be accessed centrally and from any location, so that individual operating states and operational events can be continuously monitored and logged.
Asked whether such equipment is already in operation somewhere, the project manager said that a pilot operation is currently being carried out on the GYSEV Plc. site, on the Püspökmolnári-Vasvár railway line in NW Hungary. The equipment will also be manufactured by PowerQuattro Plc.
PowerQuattro Plc. is primarily engaged in the development, manufacture, installation, maintenance and repair of power electronics equipment, as well as the supply of spare parts. Its domestic market share in the professional power equipment sector is reported to be more than 35%.
