Schneider Electric is expanding its regional procurement center in Budapest, which has been operating since 2017, and the number of employees there could rise from the current 150 to nearly 300 by 2023, the company told the state news agency MTI.
According to the information, Daniel W. Bartel, the head of global procurement at the French-based international electronics company, will also manage the area from the Hungarian capital, so that EUR 12 billion in annual procurement and the coordination of 1,400 employees worldwide will also be based in Budapest.
Schneider Electric operates two procurement centers in Europe, supporting the procurement of the company's 74 plants in 25 countries. In the Hungarian capital, a team of 150 people is currently responsible for these tasks, with a total of around 6,000 suppliers, they said.
"I am proud that we have succeeded in bringing the regional procurement center to Hungary and that the company's management has decided to expand it based on the results so far," the statement quoted Zsolt Veres, CEO of Schneider Electric Hungária Plc. He stressed that Schneider Electric's interests in Hungary play an important role in the company's life.
According to the statement, Schneider Electric has been present in Hungary since 1991 and employs around 2,000 people. It has four factories (two in Zalaegerszeg, one in Gyöngyös and one in Kunszentmiklós) and a regional logistics center (CEElog Szigetszentmiklós) serving more than 20 countries. In Budapest, there is a business, sales and customer service center (Front Office) and the European headquarters of the ESS (Energy and Sustainability Services) division. The company's global finance and procurement services center is also located in the Hungarian capital.
Last year, Schneider invested EUR 12 million in its Hungarian factories and logistics center. The group's companies in Hungary achieved sales of HUF 200 billion last year and the same in 2019.
