German-owned SICK, which makes smart optical sensors, completed a HUF 10 billion plant and warehouse in Kunsziget (NW Hungary) on Friday, MTI reports. The development expanded production capacity by 50%.
Managing director Imre Zsolt Vidó said at the handover ceremony that the project, which took several years to complete, expanded the area of the base by 10,000 sqms to 26,000 sqms.
The project that is expected to have created 300 new jobs with HUF 1.6 billion of Hungarian taxpayers' money though a government decision.
Founded in 1946, SICK is a global market leader in the field of intelligent sensor manufacturing. In 2020, it had more than 10,000 employees and sales of EUR 1.7 billion.
SICK Ltd. is a wholly owned subsidiary of SICK AG. It has been manufacturing sensors at its Kunsziget site, located 18 km from Győr, since 1996, with an annual turnover of EUR 100 million, according to information on its website. It had a headcount of 700 in 2024. Net sales revenue came to HUF 54.2 billion in 2024, mostly from exports.
