Systemax, one of Europe’s largest computer products sellers, is to open a new service center in Budapest, from where it will provide support services for European, Middle Eastern and African markets. Hungary’s National Foreign Economic Office says the center will be inaugurated in the spring of 2013 and its staff is expected to reach 200 by the end of the year.
Systemax Inc. is a Fortune 1000 company and
leading retailer of brand name and private label products, including personal
computers, notebook computers, consumer electronics, computer-related
accessories, technology supplies and industrial products
The new service center will be tasked with
supporting Systemax’s pan-European expansion strategy, conducting administrative
and back office operations and improving the company’s operating efficiency.
The facility, which will be helmed by Sandy Price, executive Vice President at
Systemax Europe Ltd. in charge of the EMEA region, will also serve as the center
for Systemax’s Central and Eastern European marketing activities.
Systemax has looked at several potential target
countries in Eastern Europe before choosing Hungary as the home for its new
service center for the EMEA region. Besides the location, the key considerations
included the good infrastructure and well-trained local labor force.
In 2011, Systemax upped its consolidated sales
3% to a record USD 3.7 billion. Business-to-business channel sales grew 12% to
USD 2 billion and its operating income grew 17% to USD 80.5 mn.
