Singapore-based Vulcan Shield, which supplies high-temperature insulation solutions to a range of industries and is building a plant in Békéscsaba (SE Hungary), has started test production with 12 workers at a plant rented from Linamar Hungary, executive manager of the Hungarian unit, Lóránt Komjáti is quoted by MTI as saying.
Speaking at a local council meeting on Thursday, Lóránt Komjáti said a Hungarian firm is designing the company’s first local factory and the process could be completed within a few months.
The executive manager pointed out that in the current test phase only, the last 5-8% of the production process is being done in Békéscsaba. In the final phase of the investment, a chemical plant will be built. He noted that the design of the chemical plant is expected to begin only in 1.5-2 years, until then the material will be imported from China.
He noted that they do not plan to hire workers from third countries, and experts from China will only arrive temporarily to train local workers. The Békéscsaba plant will be Vulcan Shield’s first in Europe and they will supply products for the aerospace and heavy industry, mainly for the US and European markets, he added.
They have already signed a cooperation agreement with the Békéscsaba Vocational Training Center and the University of Szeged. Within five to six years, they will mostly need engineers, he stated.
Vulcan Shield laid the cornerstone of the HUF 280 billion plant in Békéscsaba at the start of April, the then government planned to support the investment with HUF 50 billion, but Lóránt Komjáti said they have not yet signed the support contract for the project.
