Proceeds of the Runway Run, the running race at the Hungarian capital's Ferenc Liszt International Airport, amounted to close to HUF 14 million this year. The airport's management company Budapest Airport handed over a part of the donation, 6.6 million HUF, to the SUHANJ! Foundation, while the remainder will be donated to Anthony Nolan, a British charity which helps patients with blood cancer.
A total of 1,042 athletes took part in the Runway Run, the tenth edition of the airport running race. In this special event, runners competed on the closed runway I, and ran the chosen distance in the sunset. This year, in addition to the running shirts included in the starter pack, participants had the opportunity to purchase official t-shirts from the previous years, thus supporting the chosen foundations in addition to the entry fee. These funds raised a total of HUF 13,970,000, of which Budapest Airport donated HUF 6,644,000 to the SUHANJ! Foundation for the support of disabled athletes.
Budapest Airport has been supporting the work of the foundation for eight8 years now. The donation will be used to purchase equipment to support sports for disabled people - hand-powered bicycles, running carts - and for the development of the SUHANJ! Fitness, the integrated gym operated by the charity for disabled and able-bodied athletes.
“Creating equal opportunities is important to Budapest Airport, which is why we have been supporting the work of the SUHANJ! Foundation for eight years now,” the chief communications officer for Budapest Airport, Katalin Valentínyi said. She added that “like the foundation, we believe that everyone should be able to experience the joy of doing sports together. The Runway Run is a great experience every year, when we can line up at the start line together with the athletes of the SUHANJ! Foundation. We are happy to once again see so many people running together for a good cause this year.”
“We are delighted that our cooperation with Budapest Airport already spans several years now, which has enabled us to share the joy of movement with more of our fellow human beings living with disabilities and handicaps. The Runway Run holds an important place in our calendar and in our hearts every year, and it is safe to say that the SUHANJ! team is represented here in the largest numbers, as the quality of the course and the atmosphere of the race are really attractive for everyone. We hope to continue our relationship in the future,” the communications officer for the SUHANJ! Foundation, Zoltán Fenyvesi pointed out.
