The Danish household goods retail chain JYSK will open two new stores in March, while two others will be renewed. The new stores will be opened in Bicske and Várpalota, bringing the total number of JYSK stores in Hungary to 98, the chain said on Wednesday, according to MTI.
In addition to the opening of new stores, JYSK is also continuously renovating its existing stores, which means that by the end of 2024, all of the company's stores worldwide, more than 3,300 units, will be renewed. In Hungary, the next renovated stores will reopen in March in Vecsés and Szigetvár.
JYSK's country director for Hungary, Austria and Greece, Sándor Szimeiszter, said in a statement that with the upsurge in online shopping, there is still a strong demand for physical stores, especially for higher value products such as furniture and mattresses.
The new stores will each have a floor area of around 1,000 square meters.
Energy efficiency has been a key focus of the works, including the replacement of light bulbs with LEDs and the installation of motion sensors in the social areas. With the new concept, the energy consumption of the lighting in the stores can be reduced by at least 25 percent, they said.
JYSK has more than 3,300 stores and web shops in 48 countries and 31,000 employees. The JYSK group had a turnover of EUR 5.2 billion in the 2022/23 financial year. JYSK currently has more than 1,000 employees in Hungary. JYSK achieved a turnover of HUF 97 billion in Hungary in the financial year 2022/23.
